I was supposed to be arriving home in Tassie today, after a week away visiting friends in Sydney and family further north. But my week took a turn when I arrived at my stepdad’s macadamia farm on Sunday, and the clouds rolled in.
The heavy rain started on Monday, and it has not stopped since. We are in a very isolated area on the Mid-North Coast of NSW, surrounded by rainforest, but safe on the slope of a hill. The creek at the southern end of the property is inundated with water, and has turned to rapids – totally un-crossable. Behind us, the road leading north has a landslide, and we are waiting to see whether it’s safe to leave the property via car. The local airport is closed due to flooding on the roads, so for the moment, I am stranded here.
All things considered, we are so lucky here. We have plenty of food, wood for the fire and haven’t lost power. It’s a rare opportunity for me to spend extra time with my mum and sibling, and I’m doing my best to see the good in an otherwise scary and frustrating situation. I can’t remember the last time I played so many board games in 4 days!! Plus there are cute dogs and a friendly cat. And a never-ending supply of macadamia nuts.
Now, because our wifi connection is unreliable I have decided not to teach my livestream class tomorrow morning, and instead I have pre-recorded a special yin class for you, right here on the farm, which you can find here. Inspired by all of the water surrounding me, I hope you’ll enjoy this unique “pop-up” practice.
I expect to be back in Tassie sometime within the week (fingers crossed) and endeavour to return to regular livestreaming next Friday. Thank you for your patience!
