Very excited to announce that @sas_stephenson and I will be teaching a 🌞 Summer Retreat 🌞

It will happen during the entryway to ♒️ Aquarian Season ♒️ and will feature food by the incomparable @2queers1plate in the gorgeous bush land of Dharawal Country (Minto Heights). Expect lots of magic, yoga, eating, community, swims in the river, looking at the stars at night and laughter. Lots of laughter. My feeling is that this will fill up quickly — we’re all desperate for real life connection and nature adventures 🍃 I hope you’ll join us.

Every Tuesday morning @sas_stephenson and I have been pulling an archetype card each from @kim_krans ’ beautiful deck. We keep our cards displayed on our altar and I keep a log in my journal of what card I’ve pulled each week. Often it’s not until the end of the week that things fall into place or the card I’ve pulled makes sense.

This week my card was The Ocean 🌊 which was wonderful to pull because I can finally visit the ocean again with the 5km lockdown restriction lifted. However, a visit to the ocean didn’t really fit into my schedule through the week, until I woke up Monday morning (today) and needed the salt water more than ever.

Yesterday I finished co-facilitating 14 weekends of teacher training through Krama Yoga and at the end we were all brought to tears. Then I had some Mercury Retrograde technical problems for my workshop online (PowerPoint disappeared and then my computer shut down halfway through the class 🙄) and THEN in the evening we had to say goodbye to our fluffy golden girl Allie. Needless to say, I haven’t cried that much in years. Sas and I walked around the block at night, as we did with Allie for 109 days, but this time salty-eyed and so so sad.

So I’m at the ocean now, and the waves are WILD. But I got myself into the water, fully immersed, and can already feel that I’m beginning to heal.

Emotions are big and beautiful and sometimes scary. But I would rather feel everything than feel nothing at all.

In a few hours Sydney will start to emerge from 10

In a few hours Sydney will start to emerge from 108 days of lockdown. So much has changed in my life, and I’m sure so much more will. One thing I’m being asked a lot is whether I’ll be offering in-person classes anywhere soon and the answer, at least for the time being, is no. For the last 10 years I have taught in-person classes full-time (eg. 10-18 classes per week). Even when I’ve travelled overseas, it has always involved teaching classes. I’ve loved every minute of it, but I am also feeling the call for a break. During this lockdown I really fell in love with teaching online - something I never imagined for myself. I enjoy working from my home (hello cancer crab 🦀), working fully for myself and I love the creativity it provides in terms of what I can offer people via my website. More and more I’m hearing that people want short classes - 10 mins, 20 mins, 30 min practices. I’m enjoying the challenge of recording these requests and trying to keep it interesting. And to be honest, it’s a truer reflection of what my own practice is looking like these days. I used to think that I had to practice 90 min a day, 6 days a week, or else I was a “bad” yogi. It’s very freeing to let myself choose to take more days off, or simply practice less. Guilt is always the worst reason to practice.
So, I’m not saying I won’t ever teach in-person classes again, but it might not be for a while. Probably not for the rest of the year. But who knows? If the right opportunity presents itself and it feels right, I could change my mind. Change is the only constant.
And I do have something very special lined up in January… can’t wait to share it with you soon.
