Jivamukti Yoga is a holistic yoga practice in that it encompasses much more than simply a physical practice.
Of equal importance to āsana (postures) is prānāyāma (breathwork), nāda (music) in the form of curated playlists to support the movement of the class, and the chanting of Sanskrit mantras, dhyāna (meditation), shastra (study of the philosophy of yoga) as well as intention setting, giving meaningful direction to the practice.
A typical Jivamukti Class takes the form of a flowing vinyāsa class, with roots in Ashtanga yoga, supported by nurturing hands-on-assists. A theme will be introduced that is interwoven through the fabric of the class via the music, inspiring readings and insights from the teacher. Challenging, intelligent and creative āsana sequences guide the body through all planes of movement, culminating in a deep relaxation and shavasana massage.
I have been teaching Jivamukti Yoga since 2011 and am 800+hr Advanced Certified in the method. Jivamukti Yoga is the foundation of who I am as a yoga teacher.
